(I'm not sure how to transcribe my pronunciation of "experience", especially in the first part. I definitely do not say [ɛkspɪəri:əns] This is relevant to Geoff Lindsey's idea that /ɪə/ has disappeared. He needs to work out how to transcribe the start of these words.)

    1. To clarify, when I say "these words", I mean words such as period, serious, hero, delerious. /ɪə/ before /r/ in these words does not become [i:ə].

    1. Somehow my earlier attempt to reply to this seems to have vanished into the ether, so I'll try again. The online translator appears to have assumed Reading (the town) rather than reading (the verb). But the sentiment is of course still perfectly clear.

  12. I am sorry to learn about your stroke and hope you recover completely (many people do).

I was intrigued that you say "lɑːs wiːk" instead of "lɑːst wiːk". Recently our choir sang an African-American gospel song and the director said that to be faithful to the source we shouldn't pronounce the t in such a situation because African American singers drop some final consonants. I can attest that that is true; I grew up in the segregated south (of the USA) many years ago and I myself wouldn't have pronounced the "t" in "last week" (I am white). When I found myself in a northern college I became ashamed of that and have worked on pronouncing final consonants. I couldn't bring myself to do what the choir director suggested.

When I sing I pronounce final consonants quite exaggeratedly, but that is what choir directors want.
